Program Coordinator

Summer of Solutions Hartford 

Job Type: 15 hours/week from January 1st – October 30th

Job Description: Summer of Solutions Hartford is a food justice non-profit that works primarily in the South End of Hartford. We build and care for community and school gardens, teach gardening in schools, and run food-related community events. For the past three years, we have used a 9-week summer program as our primary platform to train young people in urban agriculture, sustainability, leadership, and organizing skills. This year, we are changing our model to run a year-round internship program.

We are seeking passionate and qualified leaders to build our Program Coordinator team who will take advantage of the opportunity to reshape our program as it transitions. We will together work to reshape the program, recruit youth interns to participate, facilitate the internship program, and maintain the quality of the gardens at our partner sites. We are looking for a team with a diverse set of experience in food and social justice work. 

Primary Responsibilities:

–       Work closely with community members and partner sites to build and maintain urban agriculture projects

–       Media Outreach to newspapers, radio, blogs, facebook, twitter and others

–       Fundraise to support program costs, intern stipends, and other expenses

–       Envision and Create new projects that further food justice and community empowerment

–       Develop a paid-internship program through local colleges

–       Serve as a flexible team member to participate in new projects as needed

–       Recruit a team of youth to participate in the internship program

–       Manage a garden site and a team of interns

–       Coordinate volunteer groups

–       Prepare and lead skill-based and leadership development trainings 

Skills of the Ideal Candidate:

–       Training, facilitation, or teaching

–       Lesson planning

–       Proficiency and experience in agriculture, cooking, environmental justice or sustainability work

–       Youth mentorship and team building

–       Effective leadership and organization skills

–       Community organizing and networking

–       Fundraising and grant writing

–       Spanish speaking a plus

–       Familiarity with Google Drive

Compensation: $10/hour for 15 hours/week              Deadline: November 1st
