On April 19th, we kicked off the season with the opening of the Wesley Colbert Zion Street Garden! We welcomed many familiar faces and new members to the garden, started planting a spring crop, cleaned up a lot of debris, and build a new flower bed at the front.
Here is the front of the garden, in the middle of being cleaned up, before we started building the flower bed.
Sherese, one of our Program Leaders, brought her daughter, Shyann, who helped us plant flowers!
We planted a few seedlings, and a lot of flower seeds. In a few weeks, the whole front fence of the garden will be covered in flowers!
We cleaned a bunch of beds from last season, and signed up neighbors to plant in 45 raised beds.
Even through some brief periods of rain, we had a great turnout!
We’re looking forward to spending the rest of the season together on Zion Street.
